Convention Centre 2.0

Technology is a huge part of the day to day for most people. A power outage, a dead battery, a computer or cloud crash and we’re all scrambling to cope with withdrawal.

In this world of hyperconnectivity it is imperative to be present and engaged in all things social media. By nature a convention centre, and really any meeting facility, is meant to be a social environment, so it follows that such buildings should do everything possible to allow their visitors to connect and share with each other.

Earlier this week @LdnCC was tagged in a blog post and in a tweet by @raysadad promoting the blog. The blog was about his local convention centre and his views on their technical connectivity (wifi access) as well as their social connectivity (use of Social Media).

It was nice to read that someone was recognizing us as one of the Convention Centres who is engaged in social media and leveraging it to connect with people who are attending events.

Logically one would think that Convention Centres would be one of the first kinds of businesses to take on Social Media, surprisingly though this is not the case. When I started this position back in August one of my first searches was to see how other Convention Centres (major ones in Canada) were leveraging social media and oddly, enough only a few were.

I am proud to say that the London Convention Centre strongly believes in Social Media and what it has to offer to our guests. Over the last year we have expanded our ideology to include the concept of 212° of service. At 211° water is hot, at 212° water boils. We strive to go that one extra degree to really WOW our clients, guests and partners and Social Media is one way we are able to do that.

Through Social Media we are able to share information in a way that is more accessible to a greater audience. We are better able to engage and support our local community and most importantly, Social Media allows us to interact with a greater number of our guests more directly. It allows us to connect and share with the people who come into our building and participate in the events that we hold. We are able to really show people that we value them and we care about their experience here at the London Convention Centre. Social Media helps us to view candid comments about how we are performing; allowing us to respond immediately to various needs and perfect how we approach future events with similar situations.

I and the rest of the LCC team are so happy to be involved in the Social Media community which truly allows us to connect, share and play with everyone from our guests, to our clients and partners, to members of our local community. I want to thank everyone who has embraced us online by commenting on our blog,  posting to our Facebook Page, mentioning us on Twitter (@LdnCC) or adding our hashtag (#LdnCC) when in the building. It is easy to set up accounts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and various other Social Media sites, but without your participation and openness we wouldn’t be able to use Social Media in all of the ways we do. So thank you for welcoming us and interacting with us; you have helped us to be one of the Convention Centers that has truly engaged Social Media!

As always, we welcome your comments here on our blog. We invite you to share pictures of your time at the London Convention Centre on our Facebook Page or through Twitter and we look forward to tweeting with you when you mention us (@LdnCC), use our hashtag (#LdnCC) or use the hashtag of the event you are attending! We look forward to connecting, sharing and playing with you!
