"I do" Love Planning a Wedding!

First you have to set a date, then find a venue, then choose your wedding party, find a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses, then pick out the tuxedos for the Groom and Groomsmen. You also need to plan the meal, the flowers, the invitations, the music, the photography and the list goes on and on.

Planning your wedding has the potential to feel a bit overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. This coming weekend the London Winter Bridal Show will take over the Grand Ballroom at the London Convention Centre and there will be over 100 vendors on site to help make planning your wedding both simple and enjoyable.

In the spirit of the London Winter Bridal Show this week’s LCC blog hopes to offer some of the top trends and ideas for weddings in 2012. If you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, keep reading, you may discover a gem to make someone’s special day that much more memorable.

One trend for weddings in 2012 is that bigger isn’t necessarily better. A number of couples are opting for smaller weddings with more elegant elements. Some couples are taking a one day wedding and turning it into a weekend long celebration with a smaller group of their closest friends and family. They are planning entire weekends that include not only the main event, but brunches, dinners, and unique tourist activities. A lot of couples have friends and family travelling substantial distances so they want to make the trip well worth the time and money it is costing their guests to travel to the wedding; essentially couples are doing what they can to make the experience feel like a mini vacation.

Tied along with the idea of smaller guest lists is the idea of being more socially responsible. Couples are spending less and choosing more eco-friendly options. This can be done by choosing locally grown flowers, creating invitations with recycled paper and designing centerpieces with repurposed items. This is a great way to both cut costs and do something good for the local environment or community.

Another trend, and this should make the ladies out there happy, Grooms are taking on more responsibility when planning a wedding. It is still the Bride’s show in most cases, but the Groom is now participating more. It seems the key is to find the elements of the big day that excite the groom and let them take the reins. Some sources are suggesting that the dessert menu is something appealing to Grooms, so if you trust your soon to be spouse, give them a chance, they could pleasantly surprise you.

Other unique trends in 2012 include incorporating your favourite colour into your white wedding gown. A splash of your favourite colour can add a personal touch and it can be done simply without taking anything away from your beautiful gown. It can be as simple as having a seamstress sew your favourite colour into your crinoline petticoat. If done right it won’t distract from your gown as you walk down the aisle, but it can add some colour and playfulness to your wedding photographs.

Wedding trends can be found all over the place, in magazines, on the internet and on TV or in film, but they are by no means a to-do list for creating your big day. There are a number of details to take care of while planning your big day. Planning each of those details is an opportunity to make your big day uniquely you. Have fun, be bold and make your big day everything you and your bride or groom has ever imagined.

If you are not sure where to start, be sure to stop by the London Winter Bridal Show here at the London Convention Centre on January 21st and 22nd to talk to a number of wedding specialists from London and Area.

As always we’d love to hear your thoughts! What trends for 2012 have caught your eye? What do you think of some of the trends mentioned above? Is there anything that you believe is a must do while planning a wedding? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts!

Tissues are often provided by manufacturers to place over the printed text. Originally, the purpose of the tissue was to reduce smudging or blotting, especially on invitations poorly printed or hastily mailed before the ink was fully dried, but improved printing techniques mean they are now simply decorative. Thanks.

I concur with the trend of bigger not being better. Many of the recent weddings I've covered, as a Dublin wedding photographer have been smaller intimate affairs with mostly family and close friends.

Weddings are among the most important events in a person's life, and they can be quite a challenge to arrange and plan. So for the small additional costs involved, it's best to hire a good wedding planner. They can take the stress out of the wedding and let you enjoy it as you should.
